Sri Lanka achieved a historic milestone by participating for the first time in the prestigious World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, held in Hong Kong from November 30 to December 4, 2024.
A five-member team represented Sri Lanka at the event, showcasing talent and dedication from various institutions, including the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, Victory Taekwondo Club, and K-Lion’s Taekwondo Academy.
Highlighting the team were two young athletes from K-Lion’s Taekwondo Academy:
- Senori Fernando, competing in the Under-30 female category.
- Ashen Rajapaksha, representing Sri Lanka in the junior male category.
Guided by Master Upul Fernando, the dedicated coach of K-Lion’s Taekwondo Academy, these athletes embarked on their journey to the global stage, making the nation proud. Their participation marks a significant step forward for Sri Lanka in the international Taekwondo arena, inspiring future generations to reach for the stars.
The championship showcased Sri Lanka’s growing presence in global sports, driven by a collective commitment to excellence and passion for Taekwondo.
